Sasolburg - Northern Free State police have appealed to the public for help after a businessman was kidnapped in the Viljoensdrift area near Sasolburg on Saturday.
Inspector Stephen Thakeng said on Sunday that Elias Phakathi and his friend Joseph Mokoena stopped at the roadside after their bakkie apparently showed signs of a mechanical problem.
"Mokoena got out and walked to the boot to fetch some water.
Another man approached and Phakathi was forced at gunpoint to get into another vehicle, which had parked behind the bakkie."
The kidnapper and another man who had been waiting in the car, drove of with Phakathi.
Phakathi was later bundled out of the vehicle and reported the attack to the police.
No trace has been found of Mokoena.
Thakeng says the men were robbed of a cellphone and R13 000 cash.
