Cape Town - A yacht hit by a container ship near Robben Island on Sunday was holed, but able to make its way to Table Bay harbour under its own steam.
"Three crew on board are safe and in no immediate danger," said National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
The yacht, The Dolphin, was hit on the bow by the Gisela Oldendoff in thick fog north west of Robben Island.
Two NSRI boats, a deep sea rescue craft and a rigid inflatable were scrambled after a mayday call was picked up by port control at 17:15.
Lambinon said the yacht was holed below the waterline, but able to travel at about four knots.
He said it was presently ten nautical miles from the breakwater at the harbour. It was possible a towline would be attached to the yacht.
Lambinon said the Gisela Oldendoff had stood by at the scene until the rescue craft arrived.
