Durban - Nicolette and Hardus Lotter, accused of killing their parents, may not use the deceased couple's money to pay their defence team, the Durban High Court ruled on Friday.
Judge Vivienne Niles-Duner dismissed their application in this regard with costs, saying an accused could not benefit from his or her own crime.
Nicolette and Hardus, as well as Nicolette's former boyfriend Mathew Naidoo, are accused of murdering Johannes and Magdalena Lotter at their Westville home last year.
The murder trial against the Lotter siblings will resume on November 27.
It was put on hold pending the civil application. Naidoo was released on bail in February while his two co-accused remained behind bars.
