Selebi: Nothing has changed

Pretoria - The fate of SA's national police commissioner Jackie Selebi was on Tuesday still unclear and an announcement as to whether or not he would be prosecuted was yet to be made.

"In so far as the decision..... as matters stand here and now, we've not received any information that things have changed," National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Tlali Tlali said.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NPA indicated that the decision would not be made public until it had been studied by Justice and Constitutional Development minister Brigitte Mabandla.

"I cannot say whether the minister has gone through the report or not, it would be best to go through the (minister's) spokesperson," said Tlali.

He could not give a time frame as to when the announcement would be made.

Acting national director of public prosecutions Mokotedi Mpshe recently received the report from a committee he set up to review the Scorpions case against Selebi.

The NPA confirmed in September that it had been investigating Selebi in connection with money laundering and drug dealing.

Selebi has come under fire for his reported links with Glenn Agliotti, who was recently convicted on drug trafficking charges in terms of a plea bargain agreement which will see him testifying against people originally charged with him.

Ministerial spokesperson Zolile Nqayi said : "It is unlikely that she has had the time ( to go through the report) because of the conference".

Both Selebi and Mabandla were attending the African National Congress's 52nd national conference in Limpopo.
