Johannesburg - A 28-year-old farm employee was shot and killed by three robbers on a stock farm near Kwaggafontein outside Bloemfontein on Wednesday morning, Mpumalanga police said.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said three men entered the farm at about 07:00, pretending to be interested in buying some of the sheep.
The 40-year-old owner was bringing her daughter to school as her employee showed the men the sheep. The owner returned to the farm and was walking over to the group when she heard a gunshot.
The employee was shot in his chest by the men and died at the scene.
The men forced the woman to her house and robbed her of her laptop and jewellery.
They took the woman to her car and forced her to start it, as they themselves did not succeed in doing so.
They drove away with the owner, wanting to throw her out along the road.
However, a struggle ensued and the woman pushed one of the robbers onto the driver, who lost control and the car overturned.
The robbers then ran away from the accident scene.
The woman sustained minor injuries when a robber hit her with his firearm.
She was treated in hospital and discharged the same day.
No arrests had been made, Khoabane said.
