Middelburg - The bodies of a man and woman were found at their home in Mhluzi, Middelburg, on Wednesday, Mpumalanga police said on Thursday.
The man apparently beat the woman over the head with a clothes iron before hanging himself, said Captain Malcum Mokomene.
The couple apparently quarrelled before the argument turned violent.
Their 13-year-old son, who is in the care of relatives, called the police.
