Students leave hostels

Johannesburg - Students from Technikon Witwatersrand have started leaving their hostel rooms ahead of a 18:00 deadline.
The deadline was set by technikon management after thousands of students embarked on an illegal protest in Johannesburg earlier in the day. Over 300 students were arrested in central Johannesburg for staging an illegal protest, tresspassing and intimidation.
They accused management of changing the house rules without consulting them, but management has denied this saying students were consulted extensively. There were no classes on Wednesday.
Students carrying bags and blankets lined the street outside the Auckland Park campus, the lucky waiting for lifts home, late on Wednesday afternoon.
Many of the students threatened to go to Jeppe police station to demand the release of the arrested students.
