Man 'hacks' girlfriend to death

Babanango - A 24-year-old man allegedly hacked his 19-year-old girlfriend to death with a bushknife before cutting her mother's hand in Dingaastaad, near Babanango, on Monday, Kwazulu-Natal police reported on Tuesday.

Captain Vusi Mbatha said Ntombiyenkosi Sibiya and her mother were walking towards the Mpembeni River when they spotted Sibiya's boyfriend.

The boyfriend was allegedly carrying a bushknife. While crossing the river, he allegedly started hacking at Sibiya. Her mother tried to intervene but the man allegedly chopped at her left hand.

Sibiya died of wounds to the head, face and body. Her mother was taken to Nkonjeni hospital for treatment.

The man is still at large.
