Johannesburg - A 32-year-old man was arrested for perjury and defeating the ends of justice after he reported his car stolen when he forgot what had happened to it, Johannesburg's East Rand police said on Monday.
"Police traced the vehicle to Midrand and questioned the man found driving it. He informed the police that his friend (the 32-year-old) was drunk (and) that is why he took the car," said Captain Jethro Mtshali.
The car's owner allegedly confessed on Monday that he had not known what happened to his car as he had been under the influence of alcohol, said Mtshali.
The man allegedly reported that two armed men hijacked his BMW on Friday night in Kempton Park.
He was arrested and was expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
