Orphans' dreams take flight

Johannesburg - Twenty-five orphaned children will be a step closer towards realising their dreams of becoming pilots, thanks to the Black Lawyers Association.
The children would be taken for flying lessons by an aviation company.
Kathleen Dlepu, chairperson of the association's gender desk, said 15 children had been drawn from the Orlando Children's Home in Soweto and 10 from the Kathorus Home.
The lessons would start at 05:30 on Saturday in Alberton.
"These children will be treated to the joys of flying for a day by Aviation Johannesburg to motivate them to consider taking up careers in aviation and being pilots," she said.
The children were chosen after they had written essays on why they would like to be pilots.
The association and the Rosettenville SuperSpar are the sponsors of the Orlando home and help in providing groceries and clothes.
Dlepu said this initiative was in line with ensuring that children's rights were treated as human rights.
"This forms part of the government's call on all citizens to contribute to the Letsema initiative."
