Polokwane - ATM bombers blew open an empty money machine at a shopping centre in Lebowakgomo near Polokwane early on Thursday morning, police said.
Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said a Capitec Bank manager reported that the ATM ran out of money at around 13:00 on Wednesday.
"The bank was waiting for the machine to be reloaded but the people responsible for doing this had not yet arrived by close of business."
When the ATM was blasted at about 02:00, the culprits discovered the machine was empty, Seabi said.
No arrests had been made by Thursday.
