Durban - Two men were killed and two others were injured in a driveby
shooting, believed to be related to taxi violence, on the N2
freeway near the Queensburgh/Edwin Swales turn-off in Durban on
Wednesday morning, police said.
A red Honda Ballade and a Toyota Hi-Lux bakkie were travelling in a
convoy on the N2 when occupants of a white BMW opened fire on the
car with AK-47 rifles, police spokesperson Captain Vishnu Naidoo said.
The Honda veered off the road and crashed down an embankment.
The driver and front seat passenger were killed. The two men
sitting in the back sustained injuries to their legs.
The gunmen drove off and no arrests were made.
Naidoo said the two men in the bakkie were not injured and stopped
a short distance away from the scene.
The motive for the attack was not known, but Naidoo said the Taxi
violence task team had been assigned to the case based on evidence
gathered at the scene.
