Tzaneen - A father has been charged with raping his daughter last week, saying it would bring her luck during her matric exams.
The 47-year-old man from Maake village near Tzaneen in Limpopo will appear in the Naphuno Magistrate's Court on Friday.
His 17-year-old daughter was about to go to school when her father called her to his room.
"Her father was still in bed and called her to the room where she was raped. Afterwards, she was told she had been given good luck to pass her final exams," said Maake police spokesperson Captain Matome Makgoba on Wednesday.
Her older sister saw her leave the room in tears and asked her what happened.
The girl told her. Her older sister then told their mother when she came home from work that night and her mother alerted the police.
The girl says she had been raped since 2000, but had been too scared to tell anyone.
"Her class teacher has also revealed to the police that the girl often arrived late at school and sometimes bunked class," said Makgoba.
The man was arrested at his house on October 10. He appeared in court the same day and was remanded in custody until October 19.
