Uitenhage - A security guard was shot and wounded when five armed men attacked him outside a bottle store in Kwanabuhle township, Uitenhage, on Monday.
Captain Gavin Baker said two guards arrived at the bottle store to collect cash about 10:00.
One guard went inside the store to collect cash while the other one waited in the vehicle. As the guard walked out of the store with a money bag, five men opened fire on him.
He was shot six times and fell to the ground. The robbers took the money bag and fled in a bakkie, that had been stolen in Zwazakhele township.
The guard was taken to hospital where he was reported to be in a serious condition.
Police, alerted about the robbery, gave chase. The robbers abandoned the vehicle and the cash.
Nobody has been arrested yet.
