Mother's body kills baby

Umtata - A baby was suffocated by his mother's body after she was shot dead by gunmen at Qumbu near Umtata.
Police spokesperson Nondumiso Jafta said Nompendulo Nongcaula, her five-month-old child Sulenkama and her mother, Mamthunzi Nongcaula, were asleep in a room on Friday night.
"It would appear the front door was forced open and several shots were fired at them as they lay asleep. Nongcaula died instantly."
Jafta said Nongcaula's body apparently slumped over her baby which probably caused it to suffocate. There were no visible signs of any injuries to the child.
Mamthunzi was seriously injured and taken to the Umtata General Hospital.
