Johannesburg - Mandrax with an estimated street value of R14m was seized in an early morning police raid on a townhouse in an upmarket suburb of Johannesburg on Friday, police said.
Superintendent Chris Wilken said the police dog unit raided the luxury townhouse in Northwold Road, Saxonwold, at 03:00 and found 350 000 Mandrax tablets packed into cardboard boxes and plastic bin liners.
Wilken said a 22-year-old woman was arrested and would appear in Johannesburg magistrate's court on Monday in connection with a charge of dealing in, and possession of, illegal drugs.
Among other items confiscated were three cellphones and R4 500 in cash. Police were trying to establish whether the arrested woman was connected with a drug syndicate, Wilken said.
The townhouse complex had been under observation by crime intelligence units from Pretoria and Cape Town for about 10 days before Friday's raid and more arrests could not be ruled out, Wilken said.
