Cape Town - The High Court heard on Wednesday that former Western Cape MEC Freda Adams told a blatant lie in the provincial legislature in March 2000, SABC radio news reported.
Adams is suing former premiers Peter Marais and Gerald Morkel for defamation, and Marais for sexual harassment.
Morkel's lawyer, Alwyn Moller, cross-examining Adams, referred to a speech she made in the legislature during which she said the province had escaped the burden of corruption.
He said that, at that stage, she already was aware of irregularities in five poverty-alleviation projects.
Moller put it to her that she acted dishonestly and told the lie.
Adams conceded that her claim in the legislature was flawed.
