Krugersdorp - Six West Rand schoolboys who allegedly raped an eight-year-old schoolgirl in class appeared for the third time in the Krugersdorp magistrate's court on Friday.
The schoolgirl was held down by five of the boys, aged nine to 10, allegedly on the instruction of the sixth boy, aged 13, who is facing rape charges.
The rape took place towards the end of October at a West Rand primary school. The teacher was away for two days and noo substitute was appointed in her place.
The five youngsters facing accessory to rape charges were released soon after their arrest and placed in the care of their guardians. The alleged 13-year-old rapist is still in custody.
All six appeared before Krugersdorp magistrate Charl Labuschagne on Friday and their case was postponed to next Thursday when the 13-year-old's case will be transferred to the regional court.
An assessment is also to be made in the interim to determine whether the five younger boys are suitable candidates for the life skills programme.
The programme is available at most centres for juvenile offenders. If they complete the programme, the accessory to rape charges against them are likely to be withdrawn.
