Johannesburg - About 1 000 people are expected to be evicted by the police from the N2 Gateway housing project in Delft, Cape Town, the community said on Monday.
Community leader Mzonke Poni said he was on his way to lodge a court interdict to prevent their eviction.
"We are on our way to Bellville Magistrate's Court to obtain a court interdict preventing our eviction, because we know the minister's order is illegal," he said.
The backyard dwellers from Delft and Belhar moved into the incomplete N2 Gateway homes last week.
Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu then issued an order to evict them.
