Cape Town - A ten-month-old baby boy from Retreat in the Cape Peninsula, who was allegedly set alight by his mother at the weekend, is in a stable condition at the Red Cross Children's hospital, SABC reported on Monday.
The child's 22-year-old mother apparently argued with her husband and left the house in a huff.
Superintendent Nina Kirsten said on Sunday the mother bought a bottle of petrol and allegedly poured it over the child, before setting it alight.
The baby's father tried to douse the flames and he, the wife and the child were all taken to hospital with burn wounds.
The baby, who was in critical condition on Sunday night, had apparently improved overnight.
The mother faces a charge of attempted murder.
