Johannesburg - The son-in-law of Mpumalanga premier Ndaweni Mahlangu appeared in the Johannesburg Regional Court on Monday in connection with an incident in September in which his wife was injured.
Walking with the aid of crutches, Mahlangu's daughter Thokozile Mabotho was at the court to give testimony at the trial of her husband William, 32.
He was charged with attempted murder but has tendered a plea of guilty to a lesser charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The premier's daughter suffered a broken hip and is still receiving treatment after allegedly being hit with an open hand and knocked down with a motor vehicle.
Mabotho claims he did not realise his wife was so close to the vehicle and unintentionally drove into her. The plea was accepted. Evidence in mitigation, and aggravation, of sentence is still to be presented to the court.
Mabotho will remain in custody until the matter returns to court on February 24 next year.
