Cops in high-speed Jhb chase

Johannesburg - Four suspected robbers were shot by police after they failed to stop at a road block in Marlboro, Alexandra police said on Friday.
Inspector Moses Maphakela said a silver Renault Megane with four occupants made a U-turn to avoid a road block in Marlboro at 20:00.
"The car was chased by the police. It stopped seemingly with a mechanical problem as one of the occupants opened its bonnet," he said.
Another occupant got out of the vehicle and hid behind a wall of a nearby house, said Maphakela.
"As the police approached the car, the man hiding behind the wall shot at the police and they returned fire," he said.
Two of the suspected robbers were shot - one died on the scene and two others escaped. Police seized a 9mm revolver with live ammunition.
The wounded man was in police custody in hospital. He faced charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Maphakela said.
