George - An altercation between the hosts of the President's cup tournament and the owner of a guesthouse next to the Links golf course, who share an access road, has caused the guesthouse owner to lay a charge of sabotage with the police.
Leon Meyer of Winton House is convinced that a series of electricity disruptions at his guesthouse was due to sabotage.
He said his main power supply box is on the Fancourt estate, host of the tournament.
Meyer also blamed the organisers of the tournament, the PGA, for the failure of a beer fest he tried to hold the past week.
Meyer said he had made provision for 850 people every evening, but only about 50 showed up.
He alleged that this was because security staff controlled access to the shared road and did not allow directions to Winton House to be placed on the road.
Meyer claimed that he had reached an agreement with the organisers beforehand to allow him to put up the notices.
He also claimed that the organisers offered him R95 000 to close his guesthouse for the duration of the tournament, but that he refused.
Steyn Momberg, logistics manager of the tournament, denied this, adding that the organisers and Fancourt had nothing to do with the power disruptions.
