Bloemfontein - A man from Gauteng was apparently on his way to a funeral when he was arrested near Edenburg while driving at a speed of 209 km/h on the N1 highway.
Dumani Vernon Wuthi, 29, from Johannesburg, was released on R1 500 bail and has to appear in the Edenburg court next Friday, captain Elsa Gerber of the police said on Thursday.
Traffic officials pulled him from the road about 10km from Edenburg shortly after 10:00 on Thursday after he was driving at 209 km/h. There were two women with him in his Mercedes-Benz Kompressor. He was immediately taken to the police station.
Wuthi apparently told traffic officials he was on his way to a funeral in Port Elizabeth.
