Johannesburg - South Africa is set for snowfalls and bitterly cold conditions on Friday night in the northern, western and eastern Cape as well as the eastern Free State and in the Drakensberg, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) said on Friday.
Very cold weather was currently spreading across the central and eastern parts of South Africa.
"Bitterly cold, wet and windy conditions are expected over the bulk of the interior on Saturday, with showers and thundershowers expected to deliver small
hail and sleet in places," the SAWS said.
"This cold spell is expected to persist well into next week, with little
temperature recovery taking place before another cold front makes landfall in the Western Cape late on Monday.
"Nighttime temperatures are expected to plummet in the interior from Sunday onwards as clearance takes place. Severe frost is likely in many areas," the weather service added.
