Johannesburg - Collin Bouwer was sentenced to an effective eight years in jail by Johannesburg High Court on Friday for killing his wife in their home in 1999.
The court sentenced Bouwer to seven years on a charge of culpable homicide and three on a charge of defeating the ends of justice for altering the murder scene to mislead police.
Two of the three years on the second charge will run concurrently.
Bouwer strangled his wife, Ria, during an argument in their Kempton Park home shortly after the birth of their daughter and six months after they were married.
He was originally charged with murder - but earlier this month he changed his plea and was convicted on a charge of culpable homicide in that he negligently, and not intentionally, caused his wife's death.
