Cyclist dies during Argus

Cape Town - A 42-year-old Cape Town man died from cardiac arrest during the Argus Cycle Tour on Sunday.
The name of the Pedal Power Association (PPA) cyclist has not yet been released as his next of kin have yet to be notified.
The man, who comes from Kirstenbosch in Cape Town, succumbed to a cardiac arrest at Kommetjie on his way back to Cape Town.
He was taken to Groote Schuur hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. It was his third Argus Cycle Tour.
According to Dr Basil Bonner, medical director for the race, there were 103 multiple incidents recorded of which 54 cases were referred to hospitals for further evaluation.
Most injuries were limited to fractures, strains and grazes. The first cyclist was suspected of suffering a fractured pelvis, while the second patient complained of chest pains. No serious head injuries were reported.
Some 32 000 cyclists participated in the event.
