Bloemfontein - Three security guards and a local farmer were injured on Friday during an armed heist on the road between Bloemfontein and Petrusburg.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Motantsi Makhele said the incident happened around 08:20 when the robbers pushed the cash van off the road.
"There was a shoot-out," said Makhele.
A local farmer driving past the scene was wounded and taken to a Bloemfontein hospital in a serious condition.
Three security guards in the overturned van were also taken to hospital for treatment.
Police later arrested four men on the Soutpan's road in connection with the crime. The road between Bloemfontein and Petrusburg was closed after the incident.
