2010 stadium to be downgraded?

Johannesburg - The proposed 2010 stadium in Nelspruit is in danger of being downgraded to a normal stadium due to a lack of funds.
The municipality is short of R97m, and the Treasury has refused to give Nelspruit any more money.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has described the situation as desperate, saying the 30 000-seater stadium would have brought welcome tourism to the town and it is now in danger of becoming a massive white elephant for Mpumalanga.
"Time is running out, and this stadium is key to uplifting many underprivileged people in the Nelspruit area. It would mean more jobs and improved livelihoods.
"A solution must be found that ensures that the Mbombela Stadium does not lose any of its promise for the future," said DA MP James Masango.
