Durban - A man called in for questioning by the Durban branch of the Scorpions fell to his death from the 13th floor of the city centre building housing their offices, police said on Thursday.
Director Bala Naidoo said the man was apparently called in for questioning by the elite investigation unit after he had allegedly skipped bail on fraud and murder charges.
The offices are in the Southern Life building in Field Street.
Scorpions spokesperson Sipho Ngwema was not immediately available for comment.
The Southern Life building is one of Durban's tallest.
Naidoo said the man plunged through the glass window of the building and fell to his death.
"The exact reason for the man's fall is not yet established but initial investigations suggest that he jumped out of the window," Naidoo said.
"The Independent Complaints Directorate has visited the scene and their report will be issued in due course," Naidoo said.
"In the meantime we will follow police procedure and open an inquest docket."
