Krugersdorp - A 40-year-old woman died after she was attacked by dogs at a smallholding near Muldersdrift on Thursday, West Rand police said.
Captain Paula Nothnagel said Irene van Wyk was living on the smallholding where she had been employed for the past six months as a part-time domestic worker.
On Thursday morning she was walking from her quarters to the main house when she was attacked by three Staffordshire bullterriers belonging to the farm owner who was away at the time.
Van Wyk's boyfriend, who also lives on the premises, found the dogs fighting over Van Wyk's body and beat them off with a spade, injuring one of them which was later put down, Nothnagel said.
Van Wyk died of her injuries. The remaining two dogs were taken away by the police.
A culpable homicide docket was opened against the dogs' owner, Nothnagel said.
