Johannesburg - A 65-year-old Dutywa local councillor was killed in a collision on the N2 highway, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Captain Ling'sile Magama said the Mbashe municipality councillor's car was approaching the highway when it collided with another car on Sunday night.
He died at the scene.
Magama said the councillor's name was withheld as his next-of-kin had not been notified.
A 24-year-old woman who was driving the other car suffered slight injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, a minibus taxi driver in his 30s died when his vehicle overturned on a gravel road in Chazele, near Dutywa.
Magama said police suspected that the taxi was travelling at a high speed when the driver lost control on Saturday night.
The taxi driver had been travelling alone when the accident occurred.
