Durban - The Inkatha Freedom Party called on Tuesday for an investigation into problems at Durban's Mangosuthu University of Technology saying the institution was "playing political games".
The university shut down after being rocked by student protests last week. It is to reopen on March 17.
Alfred Mpontshane, IFP spokesperson on education, said: "The IFP believes the university must stop playing political games and furnish us with the truth."
Mpontshane said he wanted to know why the university had blamed the protests only on Sadesmo (the SA Democratic Students Movement).
"It is clear that the university is not willing to shoulder any blame itself," he said.
"Management's belief that students should be victimised is a clear indication of where their political affiliations lie."
The institution's vice-chancellor Professor Aaron Ndlovu is a member of the African National Congress.
Ndlovu said on Monday that the protest was "unilaterally" undertaken by Sadesmo, which is aligned to the IFP.
