Maputo - Work on a 450km oil pipeline linking South Africa and Mozambique will start a month behind schedule due to delays in approving the final version of the environment impact assessment, the daily Noticias reported on Monday.
Work would begin in November, a month after earlier projections, Mariana Nieuwoudt, spokesperson for Petroline Holdings, was quoted by the paper as saying.
Nieuwoudt told the paper that the final version of the environmental impact report was submitted last week to South African authorities for public consultations.
The pipeline, which would link Maputo and Nelspruit, could carry 3.5 million cubic metres of petroleum products per year.
The pipeline, which was expected to be operational in 2011, was expected to alleviate problems in the transportation of oil products in Gauteng, the Free State, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
At least $537m had been invested in the project.
