Cape Town - An attempt to refloat the stricken Sealand Express - beached close to shore in Milnerton, Cape Town - failed on Friday evening, spokesperson Evelyn John Holtzhausen said.
However, he volunteered salvage experts had managed to move the vessel "a little".
This he said was cause for hope that the ship could be refloated in the not too distant future. He said a sandbank which had been an obstacle to the ship's safe passage had been dredged.
A further attempt at freeing the ship will be made on Saturday during high-tide at 05:00.
