Mbeki 'disgusted' by dog-handlers
2000-11-11 11:46
Cape Town - President Thabo Mbeki said the behaviour of the six
police dog-handlers towards three illegal immigrants pointed to the
degeneration of moral fibre within South African society, SABC
radio news reported on Saturday.
The policemen, who are being held, ordered their dogs to attack
the immigrants while being video-taped.
Speaking at an African National Congress fund-raising function at
Somerset West, near Cape Town, he said something more than the
enactment of laws needed to be done to curb such incidents.
Mbeki also called for drastic measures to end the marginalisation
of women.
He challenged women in government, as well as women in the private
sector, to come up with workable proposals for rural development
projects. - Sapa
