Cape Town - A 10-month-old baby from Retreat is fighting for its life in hospital after its mother set it alight following an argument with her husband, Cape Town police said on Sunday.
Superintendent Nina Kirsten said a 22-year-old woman had apparently argued with her husband on Saturday and left the house in a huff.
She is reported to have bought a bottle of petrol and poured it over the child, before setting it alight.
The baby's father tried to douse the flames and sustained burns to his face and hands.
Both the husband and wife were hospitalised for burns, with the child in critical condition.
Kirsten said the mother faces a charge of attempted murder.
