Bloemfontein - Former Free State Cheetah rugby player Chrisjan Baadjies would be prosecuted on a charge of murder, it emerged at the Bloemfontein regional court on Wednesday.
Baadjies was arrested in December 2000 after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head during a drunken brawl.
SABC radio news reported that representations were addressed to the director of public prosecutions that Baadjies should not be prosecuted. But the director decided that the case should continue.
It was also decided to prosecute Baadjies on a charge of murder instead of a charge of culpable homicide.
The case was postponed to March 23 next year for trial. Baadjies has been released on bail.
