Durban - Two people were stabbed to death in separate incidents in Pietermaritzburg over the weekend, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.
Inspector Joey Jeevan said one murder took place near the Mpumelelo Primary School in the France informal settlement on Sunday.
Police found the body of 21-year-old Ndumiso Majozi with several stab wounds to the chest. It is believed he had an argument with a companion when the incident took place. Police later arrested a 19-year-old in connection with the murder. He was expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court shortly.
Late on Sunday night, a stabbing in the Imbali area was reported to police. A 24-year-old man, Sibonelo Mnyandu, was stabbed in the head and body. Police said Mnyandu and a woman were at a tuckshop when an unknown man confronted them.
"An altercation ensued which resulted in the suspect hauling out a knife and stabbing Mnyandu several times," said Jeevan. He died on the scene.
The suspect ran away. A short while later two people were arrested in connection with the murder.
