Johannesburg - Four suspects, one of whom is a police inspector, were arrested for an armed robbery at Lanseria airport on Sunday, police reported.
Captain Tshisikhawe Ndou said the four suspects held Lanseria security guards at gunpoint on Sunday afternoon, robbing them of about R1000 in cash, a cell phone and gold jewellery.
They then fled the scene.
Apparently, one of the guards notified the police.
On their way to the scene the police, acting on information received, stopped and searched a white VW golf.
Ndou said the four suspects, together with the stolen goods, were in the vehicle. Police also found two hand radios, and three fire-arms.
The golf was actually a state vehicle, said Ndou, and one of the suspects was a police inspector at a Soweto police station.
He said the suspects would appear in court shortly, on charges of armed robbery.
