Johannesburg - President Thabo Mbeki has been briefed on the conviction of deputy president Jacob Zuma's financial advisor, Schabir Shaik, a government spokesperson said on Thursday.
Joel Netshitenzhe said: "The president has been appraised and he has noted the developments.
"And when we say that all of this will require considered reflection, we are also referring to reflection by the president himself and other authorities."
Shaik was found guilty in Durban High Court earlier in the day on two charges of corruption and one of fraud.
Mbeki is on a state visit to the United States.
The office of the presidency said Zuma would issue a detailed statement on the matter once he had studied the contents of the judgment.
