Tete - More than 100 000 crocodiles are set to be exported to South Africa and Zimbabwe from the north western province of Tete in Mozambique.
Antonio Viera, director of Cahora Kapenta - a fishing company which also breeds crocodiles along the Zambezi River - told Radio Mozambique on Thursday that his company had also started a campaign to collect crocodile eggs - which would be hatched before the crocodiles were exported.
Viera said while the exportation of the crocodiles would boost the country's economy, it would also help in reducing human-animal conflict in that province.
More than 30 people had died in human-animal conflicts in the country this year. Tete was one of the provinces, where most cases of human deaths due to crocodiles were recorded.
In Mozambique, problem animals included crocodiles, elephants and hippopotamuses, which did not only kill people but destroyed several hectares of fields of crops.
