Johannesburg - Up to 20 drunk drivers were arrested in Yeoville, Johannesburg metro police said on Sunday.
Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the drivers were arrested in Raleigh Street on Saturday during a roadblock held in and around the CBD.
"We stopped cars and people and searched them. During the roadblock, we issued 300 tickets for fines including driving without a licence and driving without wearing a safety belt," said Minnaar.
In another incident a man was arrested late on Saturday for attempting to steal a cellphone inside a car by trying to break a car window, said Minnaar.
The drivers were charged with drunken driving and the man was charged with attempted stealing.
All the arrested are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
