Johannesburg - A 35-year-old man was arrested at the Durban international airport when he attempted to smuggle firearms, ammunition and cellphones from South Africa to Ghana.
Police spokesperson Vishnu Naidu said the man was arrested by airport policemen who were following a tip-off on Thursday.
"Police discovered a 9mm, a .38 pistol, a 7.65 pistol, several rounds of ammunition and five cellphones in the man's suitcase."
Naidu said police discovered that the 7.65 pistol was reported stolen during a housebreaking in Pietermaritzburg last month.
The Ghanaian told the police that the cellphones were sold to him in his salon in Durban central, Naidu said.
He was expected to appear at the Wentworth Magistrate's Court on Monday.
