Cape Town - A Norwegian mountaineer, Arne Naess, the former husband of pop diva Diana Ross, was killed on Tuesday in a mountain accident in Franschoek, police said.
Captain Etienne Terblanche said Naess, from Oslo and in his 60s, fell to his death.
"Mr Naess was a guest on the farm Lomarins in Franschoek. He went climbing at 08:00 this morning (Tuesday) and fell to his death at about 12:30,"
Terblanche said.
"An inquest will be held to determine exactly what happened," he said.
A spokesperson for the Norwegian embassy in Pretoria confirmed that a person from the country had died in an accident.
"A Norwegian person died in an accident in the Western Cape province, but that is all the information we have now," the spokesperson said.
Naess, a renowned mountaineer, divorced Ross in May 1999 after 13 years of marriage.
