Bloemfontein - Five men were arrested in the Free State on Tuesday after a bag filled with human body parts was found with them.
Constable Thandi Mbambo said the five, including a witchdoctor, were allegedly involved in a botched muti sale.
Police arrested them around 07:30 at a shack in the Freedom Square township after receiving a report that four men were hawking body parts.
In the bag police found a head, a pair each of hands and feet, intestines, genitals, a heart and a cut-up liver. All appeared to be from the body of an unknown man estimated to be in his twenties.
The witchdoctor was the alleged prospective buyer, Mbambo said.
Further investigation led police to a bloody site at a dam in nearby Bloemspruit, where the victim appeared to have been butchered.
The five would be charged with murder, Mbambo said.
They will appear in the Bloemfontein magistrate's court on Thursday.
