Farmer stabbed in bed

2008-04-06 14:23

Johannesburg - A 68-year-old man was stabbed and killed on his Ventersdorp farm during an armed robbery, North West police said on Sunday.

Superintendent Louis Jacobs said four men attacked Pieter Heynecke and his partner Elsie Nortman, 46, while they were sleeping at around 01:00 on Saturday.

He said Nortman had woken up feeling that someone was pressing down on her and realised there was a man on top of her, and another man on top of, and stabbing, Heynecke.

She realised there were another two men in the room.

Jacobs said the men were demanding money.

When Heynecke tried the resist the attack the men ran away, taking a cellphone with them.

Heynecke died shortly afterwards of stab wounds to the chest.

Nortman was not injured.

No arrests had been made but police were questioning a man on Sunday.

The men gained access to the house through a window in the living area.

Meanwhile, two men were arrested on Friday in connection with the murder and robbery of another elderly man in Klerksdorp.

Jacobs said the men, aged 25 and 28, allegedly beat and killed 85-year-old Albert Johnson in his home last weekend.

He died of head injuries.

The men were arrested in Jouberton, outside Klerksdorp on Friday. Some of the items stolen from Johnson's home were found in their possession, he said.

The men were expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Jaydee says... I have a hopefull gut instinct that Zuma is biding his time as his cabinet settles. The 100 days of poll opinions have past and not a great deal has been achieved. However, Zuma, i think will take the necessary steps to strengthen the gaps and weedle out the detrimental influences within the party. At any rate he has no option. The global business community is watching this country very very closely. This award has been given to easily and too was the Noble peace prize to Obama. Zuma needs to have been of service longer in his seat as president. Just seven months doesn't swing it really. Awards of this nature could simply be appeasement of the masses. Read the article...
