Vereeniging - A man was arrested on Monday for the murder of his wife and mother-in-law in the Boltonwold area in Meyerton, said Vereeniging police.
Captain Shado Mashabane said the man had been living apart from his 38-year-old wife as she had a restraining order against him.
The 52-year-old man had gone on Monday to the plot where his estranged wife and mother, aged 57, were living.
He slit the mother's throat with a knife and she died immediately.
"His wife had gone to a nearby fire station, to seek help. When she returned home, the man stabbed her four times in the upper body and she also died."
Netcare 911's Mark Stokoe said the woman's 14-year-old daughter had hidden inside the house during the stabbings.
"She was unharmed, but severely traumatised. She was taken to hospital for counselling."
He said the motive for the killings was unknown.
Police found the murder weapon on the plot.
The man was due to appear in Meyerton Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on murder charges.
