Durban - Two men were arrested and 20 000 ecstasy tablets worth R1.6m confiscated in Durban on Sunday, SABC television news reported.
In a joint operation the national and provincial crime intelligence units swooped on a hotel in the city where they found a man with a bag containing the tablets. Another man was arrested in the parking lot.
The haul is the police's second biggest. In August they seized 90 000 ecstasy tablets with a street value of R7.2m.
Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo said: "This has been a significant operation in terms of our anti-crime drive. The drugs bust has made a huge dent in the drug market. The street value of ecstasy tablets has risen from R13 to R80."
Naidoo said police were keen to speak to Younus Essa, whom they believe could assist them in their investigations.
