KwaMhlanga - Six people died in a road accident outside the Mpumalanga town of Roossenekal on Saturday afternoon, police reported.
Inspector Jacky Nkwana said a Kombi minibus going in the direction of Steelpoort and a white Nissan bakkie going in the direction of Stofberg collided at 15:00.
The 16-seater minibus was from Pretoria and carried 20 passengers on their way to Burgersfort, said Nkwana.
The bakkie apparently belonged to a local resident. It had a canopy and carried passengers in the back.
According to the driver of the minibus, the bakkie was zigzagging over the road as it approached, said Nkwana. He tried to avoid it, but they collided head-on.
Five people in the bakkie were killed, and one in the minibus. All the others were injured and were taken to hospitals in Groblersdal and Middelburg.
The names of the deceased were being withheld until their next-of-kin had been notified, said Nkwana.
However, the police were having trouble in identifying the people who were travelling in the bakkie, and would appreciate the help of the community.
